Job description
As the Climate & Systems Lead, you will be part of our Technology team, reporting directly to the Technology Manager. You will collaborate with a counterpart in Biology and work with engineers, suppliers, and automation experts to develop high-performance, sustainable solutions for our vertical farm.
Your primary goal is to design, optimize, and implement climate control and lighting systems while managing supplier relations and overseeing system development to ensure efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
You will:
Develop Climate & HVAC Systems – Design and optimize HVAC solutions for vertical farming, focusing on energy efficiency, cost reduction, and automation.
Optimize Lighting Systems – Collaborate with LED suppliers and your Biology counterpart to enhance light spectrum, intensity, and photoperiods for optimal plant growth.
Oversee Irrigation System Development – Define and manage the farm’s irrigation requirements, ensuring efficient water distribution and sustainability.
Lead Product Development – Own the design, prioritization, and optimization of control systems for cell structures, frames, lighting, air handling units, climate control, and irrigation.
Manage Supplier Relations – Work closely with suppliers to improve product performance, drive innovation, and integrate cutting-edge technologies.
Guide Project Teams – Prioritize tasks, oversee development milestones, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
Job requirements
You’ll need:
A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
Project management skills with experience in leading technical projects.
Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
Hands-on experience with HVAC system design, airflow modeling, and energy-efficient climate control.
Knowledge of LED lighting systems and their applications in controlled-environment agriculture.
Strong analytical skills and expertise in data-driven optimization techniques
Experience in supplier management of highly technical, complex goods.
Nice to have:
Experience in vertical farming, greenhouse technology, or controlled environment agriculture.
Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, OpenFOAM).
Familiarity with automation, sensors, and IoT integration for climate and lighting control.
