    • Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
  • Tech - Hardware

Join Growy as a Mechanical Engineer! Design, prototype, and test innovative farming systems in Amsterdam. Work with a diverse team to develop machines that enhance sustainable agriculture.

Job description

Our Growy Tech department is looking for more farm builders. This department deals with all technical matters around the farm: robotization, sensoring, seeding, harvesting, climate control and software/firmware development. As a mechanical engineer you will be developing new machines and equipment as well as improving systems that are already in use. Your tasks will include the entire process from ideation until final documentation.

A central part of our farm is a machine that we call a robot. It takes care of the plants by giving them water, collects data, and transports the plants to the right position. Other systems that you could be involved with are machines for harvesting, cleaning, seeding, etc. As part of a multi-disciplinary team with embedded software developers, electronics and mechanical engineers, your focus will be on developing the next version of systems.

You will:

  • Design systems (robots, harvesting, cleaning, seeding) in 3D CAD, focusing on manufacturability, safety, hygiene, and costs
  • Test concepts with quick prototypes and work with the test engineer on durability tests
  • Perform basic strength calculations on components and select motor sizes
  • Handle full documentation, including bill of materials, manuals, and safety analysis (CE guidelines)
  • Source suppliers, request quotes, and ensure timely delivery
  • Communicate decisions with stakeholders (engineering, operations, finance, etc.)
  • Estimate project timelines and meet deadlines
  • Maintain a clean, organized workshop and encourage shared responsibilities

Job requirements

You'll need:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role

  • Strong CAD skills (5+ years), preferably with Fusion 360, and experience with 3D modeling, libraries, and sheet metal

  • Knowledge of production methods and materials (laser cutting, CNC bending, 3D printing, milling, injection molding, etc.) and cost implications

  • Hands-on skills to assemble prototypes using manual and power tools

  • Basic understanding of electronics, software, firmware, plant biology, and business as they relate to mechanical design, with a willingness to fill knowledge gaps
