Job description
At Growy, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team that brings together mechanical, automation, software, and electrical experts to create next-generation vertical farms. The team you'll join consists of around 10 engineers, and this role is a key contributor to both our realization and R&D projects. Your main mission? Designing, implementing, and evolving the electrical systems that power our farms—from high-voltage switchboards to precision-controlled subsystems.
In this role, you’ll also help raise the technical bar across the team by coaching junior engineers, sharing best practices, and fostering a collaborative, curious work environment. You’ll thrive here if you’re hands-on, proactive, and excited about working across disciplines to build truly innovative farming systems.
Success in this role means: delivering safe, robust, and scalable electrical solutions, driving innovation within R&D, and helping others grow along the way.
You will:
Design and develop end-to-end electrical systems for our vertical farms—including medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution (mostly under 1000V), safety systems, control panels, and machine interfaces.
Translate concepts into detailed schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials using tools like EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
Support on-site installation, testing, and commissioning of systems, ensuring quality and compliance.
Collaborate closely with system engineers, software developers, and mechanical designers to ensure seamless system integration.
Take an active role in R&D—developing prototypes, exploring new technologies, and pushing boundaries in agri-tech.
Ensure all designs meet electrical codes and safety standards.
Evaluate components and suppliers based on performance, cost, and long-term reliability.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians, and support knowledge-sharing within the team.
Document your work thoroughly and provide training and support for internal and external stakeholders.
Job requirements
You’ll need:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
3+ years of experience designing industrial electrical systems, including medium- and low-voltage applications.
Strong knowledge of power distribution, control panels, PLC systems, and automation principles.
Experience with CAD tools for electrical design (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
Familiarity with relevant standards such as CE and UL.
A hands-on mindset and comfort working in both office and field environments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
Proven ability or interest in mentoring other engineers.
Nice to have:
Experience in vertical farming, agricultural technology, or machine design.
Knowledge of renewable energy systems such as solar panels or battery storage.
Exposure to IoT systems or smart farm integration technologies.
About Growy
We are the first large-scale commercial vertical farm in the Netherlands, using water and energy efficiently while remaining completely pesticide-free.
